SecretaryDr. Pankaj Kumar Arora is an IRHS officer of 2003 batch. He did MBBS with Honors from the renowned Allahabad University in 2002 and MS (Surgery) from CCS University Meerut in 2006 and was the recipient of the Gold Medal in Surgery.
Currently, he is posted as Director in National Health Authority, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and heads divisions of Convergence, Hospital Empanelment, Hospital Operations and Beneficiary Engagement and is involved in policy making and implementation of world’s largest health protection scheme “Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY” and also is working on getting all major schemes of Govt. of India like CGHS CAPF etc. on single IT platform.
Prior to this, Dr. Arora has served the public health sector – as a Surgeon in Northern Railway Central Hospital, New Delhi. He joined Northern Railway as a ADMO in 2005 and later promoted to DMO, Sr. DMO and Sr. DMO (SG).
Dr. Arora is a Fellow & Councilor of American College of Surgeons (India Chapter). He is life member of Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Hernia Society, Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of India and Minimal Access Surgeons of India. In addition, he is also a member of International Commission on Occupational Health and Indian Association of Occupational Health.
Dr. Arora has been awarded several fellowships namely FACS (Fellow American College of Surgeons), FMAS (Fellow Minimal Access Surgeons of India), FALS-HPB (Fellow Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery – Hepato – Pancreato – Biliary), FIAGES (Fellow Indian Association of Gastro Intestinal Endo Surgeons) & FCLS (Fellow International College of Laparoscopic Surgeon).
He has also contributed immensely in several committees / associations at different positions, such as Joint Secretary – Delhi State Chapter of Association of Surgeons of India, Executive Member – DMA Delhi Medical Association 2018-19, Executive Member – BIS (Bureau of Indian Standard) for IR 2017 onward, Divisional Commander – Medical St. John Ambulance Red Cross 2006 onward & Joint Secretary – Indian Railway Medical Service Association 2018-22.
Apart from active engagement in health and medical sector, Dr. Arora served as an Administrator of Indian Railway Wrestling Academy and Administrative Captain of Badminton and Volley Ball Northern Railway Sports Association. He is catalyst to many reforms and innovations and actively participates in social work for the benefit of the community.
