President, SROAJ. Vinayan has been working as Chief Operations Manager – (General), Southern Railway since March 2022. He belongs to the Indian Railway Traffic Service through UPSC Civil Services Batch of 1993. Earlier assignments in Railways include various posts in the Operations, Commercial and Safety Departments. Prior to COM/ G posting he was CCM/ Passenger Marketing for 4 years and Sr. Professor at IRITM, Lucknow for one year. He has also served as Chief Vigilance Officer in the Central Government PSU, FACT Ltd. for a period of five years on deputation. His earlier postings in Railways include Sr. DOM, Trivandrum, DOM, Madurai, DSO, Palakkad and AO, Tondiarpet Marshaling Yard. During 2002-2007 he was part of the Railways’ team that set up the popular E-Ticketing service through www.irctc.co.in.
Prior to joining Railways, he has also worked as Aerodrome officer at Delhi Airport (with National Airports Authority) and with All India Radio and Doordarshan, Nagpur, through Indian Engineering Services 1989. He is a Civil Engineer from College of Engineering Trivandrum, with additional qualifications in Management and Cyber Laws. He completed his Ph. D, the Fellow Programme in Management- Industry in Management Studies in the OB/ HR Area on ‘A Corruptness Index for Organizations from IIM/ Indore, in March 2016. He was recipient of the Railways National Award for Outstanding Service from the Cabinet Minister for Railways in 2008. He has recently published a book ‘Ethics and Corruption – An Introduction’ for scholars and researchers; which has forewords by the Central Vigilance Commissioner and other luminaries in the Ethics area at National level as well as recommended by senior Professors of IIM Ahmedabad and Indore. His research thesis formed the basis of the Integrity Index for Indian organizations, currently being implemented by CVC. His book is available on Amazon, Flipkart and Barnes and Noble.
An article written by him has recently been published by the reputed Management Journal ‘Public Administration Quarterly’. He was recipient of the SKOCH Award for innovations during his stint as CCM/ PM Southern Railway, and these innovative applications like Rail Partner, Rail Dhandora, Portable UTS, Rail Census were selected by the Competition Commission of India recently for inclusion in the Database of Innovations by Civil Servants in the last few years.
